What is food waste recycling?
With food waste recycling, certain foods can be used to make organic compost.
Affordable, responsible and convenient for businesses, food waste recycling is available to clients across Oxford. For restaurants, catering companies, and others producing animal by-product waste, food waste recycling is mandated by law. Our services can help you stay compliant whilst helping you to save money as you dispose of food waste in an environmentally responsible manner.
What can go in your food waste recycling?
All of the below materials can be included in your food waste recycling:
- Meat and bones
- Fruit and vegetables
- Eggs and eggshells
- Tea and coffee grounds
- Bread and pastries
What don’t we accept?
Please note we are unable to accept food waste recycling containers that include:
- Black sacks
- Plastic bin bags or liners
- Plastic packaging
- Cooking oil
What happens to your food waste recycling?
At Oxford Direct Services, we send food waste to an Anaerobic Digestion plant to recycle this into a nutrient-rich, organic fertiliser. Known as Digestate, this compost is then used to fertilise farm lands to support sustainable farming practices throughout the UK.
What types of bin do you need for food waste recycling?
We provide 120L bins to dispose of food waste, or food sacks if you have no space for a bin. You can use plastic bags to line the bins if you wish, but it is not necessary as waste can go in directly without it affecting collection.
